Please help us welcome Dr. Jacqueline Mair to the VCS Family!

My veterinary education was obtained at Michigan State University in 1999. I successfully completed an internal medicine internship and surgery residency at Tufts Cummings School in Massachusetts. I became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2005. Upon completion of my residency I worked in a busy referral practice in Indiana. After 5 years in Indiana I have moved back to Michigan to be with my family. Prior to veterinary school I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI where I obtained a degree in finance and economics. I also completed a Masters in Business Administration while working in finance. More...

We’ll treat your pet with care and respect and will provide the highest level of diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring services. Our caring approach and our medical skills will give your pet the best chance at recovery and a return to health.

VCS Pets First - Our Well Pet Service

VCS Pets First was created to provide a general medicine and surgical service that places each individual pet first. Our mission is to evaluate each individual patient and make recommendations based on what is right for that pet. Maybe that means doing vaccine titers (looking at the level of immunity in the blood) rather than administering a vaccine. Sometimes it may be that your pet should receive a different heartworm or flea control medication that is not commonly used, but is in their best interest. We have the skill and the expertise to be sure that we are aware of your pet’s special needs and we will take the time to be sure that he or she gets exactly what they need. We are also prepared to discuss different options regarding the care of your pet and we are more than willing to provide you with whatever information you might require.

Veterinary Medicine for the Patient with Special Needs

With our highly trained and credentialed staff, Veterinary Care Specialists can offer specialty services to animal owners whose pets present challenging diagnostic or medical management problems. We can also assist local veterinarians in general practice who wish to refer patients for services not available in their offices.

If your pet is suffering from a neurological disorder, or has symptoms that suggest a problem with the brain or nervous system, the Veterinary Care Services medical team can offer your pet their specialized skills in veterinary neurology to determine the source of the problem and the most effective way to treat it. Our clinical team is experienced in diagnosing and treating such problems as epilepsy and other seizure disorders, head and spinal cord trauma, back (disk) problems, and meningitis, among others—conditions that are not uncommon but that may be difficult to manage successfully.

Through the specialized training and experience of the veterinarians and the medical team at Veterinary Care Specialists, you and your pet will be provided with access to the most effective diagnostic tools, therapeutic interventions, and long-term support and management of the pet with a neurological condition.

Veterinary Ultrasound

At Veterinary Care Specialists, we use ultrasound as a quick, noninvasive, and effective diagnostic tool to evaluate the internal structure and function of the organs of the abdomen and thorax and the soft tissues of the body. With ultrasound, we can get biopsies of abnormal tissues without surgery.

Whether you are a pet owner or a local veterinarian, the ultrasound department at Veterinary Care Specialists can assist you in many areas, including in:

  • pet breeding, for monitoring female ovulation and pregnancy
  • cardiac assessment, for evaluating heart function and spotting heart defects
  • vascular assessment, including use of Doppler techniques
  • abdominal evaluation, for spotting infections, inflammations, kidney stones, and to assist in biopsies

At Veterinary Care Specialists, our sonograms are highly accurate and are of great benefit in assessing our patients. Our ultrasonographer, Kristin Krug, is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Registered Vascular Technologist, and Registered Radiographic Technologist who has years of experience and who is skilled in a wide variety of ultrasonographic techniques. Because of Kristin’s extensive training and knowledge, we can absolutely rely on the results of the ultrasound tests she completes, for cases in which the diagnostic testing is critical in dictating the course of care. At Veterinary Care Specialists, we believe that only ultrasonography performed by a registered ultrasonographer, along with a thorough review of the ultrasound findings by a trained clinician, provides us with the level of diagnostic information we need to give our patients the best care possible.

When your pet can benefit from veterinary ultrasound, we have the tools and the knowledge to help.

Personalized Veterinary Care in a State-of-the-Art Medical Facility with a Natural Setting

In our animal hospital, the intensive care unit is outfitted with the most current diagnostic and therapeutic technology and equipment. For the pet with a contagious condition, our isolation units will offer both containment and comfort. Oxygen and anesthesia are always nearby, ready at a moment’s notice for any pet in need.

And because we at Veterinary Care Specialists are committed to attending to the whole patient, the rooms in our facility have windows that allow your pet to look out into the natural, wooded areas that surround our building. This provides an opportunity for your pet to rest and recuperate indoors while maintaining a connection with the outdoors.
